Improving all those areas will undoubtedly lead to better fitness results. However, supplements are often seen as "not necessary" or, if they are being used in a program, are being used ineffectively or even improperly.

First, food is not as nutrient dense and wholesome as it used to be. Agricultural processes have changed and the way we cook our food has changed. Unless you are growing, harvesting and eating from your own organic garden, even your fruits and vegetables aren’t as nutritious as they were 10, 20, 50 years ago.
Second, the literal environment in which we exist - the air pollution, water pollution and daily stresses take their tolls on our body’s ability to balance itself.
Even if sports supplementation isn’t for you, general wellness and immunity is promoted with daily vitamin and mineral supplements to offset harmful environmental contaminants and the daily stress of our busy lives.
A “goal-oriented” supplement program is one that helps an athlete amplify their fitness results in a way that specifically promotes results to their chosen goal.
There are many different supplements, vitamins, minerals and herbs and starting with a foundational goal will help accelerate the program for maximum effectiveness and faster results.
